William Blake’s mesmerising illustrations of Milton’s Paradise Lost

The Temptation and Fall of Eve – By William Blake

A-List Blogger Maria Popova has shared some mesmerising images of Blake’s illustrations of Milton’s Paradise Lost in BrainPickings.org today.

A blog every culture vulture should have on their reading list: BrainPickings is one of the most interesting blogs on the internet, and for good reason. Receiving over 1.2 million visitors a month and described “like walking into the Museum of Modern Art and having someone give you a customised, guided tour”, it’s definitely something worth checking out if you consider “curiosity” a virtue.

Her blog is full of so many interesting topics; just this week she’s written posts about: the science explaining why we kiss, a 1929 recording of A.A. Milne reading Winnie-the-Pooh, illustrator Maria Kalman on curiosity, courage and happiness and the two other keys to happiness, The Little Prince (one of my favourite books of all time) Deluxe Pop-Up Book and a birthday message to Charles Darwin.

Such interesting and esoteric stuff it literally makes my brain smile!

Another Popova product I love is her Literary Jukebox, which shares “quotes from beloved books, each thematically matched with a song.” So good I’d wished I thought of it first.

Enjoy.
