Some Like It Hot has always been one of my favourite screwball comedies. Billy Wilder’s wonderful treasure of a movie featuring Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe revolves around two penniless and desperate Chicago Jazz musicians that disguise themselves as female performers and join an all-girls band to escape gangsters after witnessing a crime. On a train bound for Miami, they meet the musical group’s singer, Sugar Kane, played by Marilyn Monroe, whom they both promptly fall in love with, spending the rest of the film vying for her attentions while in costume.
One of Monroe’s numbers in Some Like It Hot was the sweet and sexy “I Wanna Be Loved By You”, which of course, was music to not only Tony and Jack’s ears, but pretty much the entire male population of the US at the time.
For this number, we went minimal, wearing nothing but ribbons, like toys “just waiting to be unwrapped and played with”. Here’s our last duo: “I Wanna Be Loved By You”:
