Rearviewmirror

Rearviewmirror

(15:30) low tide

Storms happen. Tempers boil. Insults fly. Mud gets slung as the rising tides of anger threaten the walls of your embankment.

Finally, inevitably, the vitriol ebbs. Calm fills the space, and like seagulls flocking to a newly earthened shore, friends come together to pick up what’s been left behind.

And, it’s at this moment, as the sun breaks through the clouds and the horizon comes into view, that you are given the uniquely human opportunity to stop your thoughts, to pause in that space, and choose what comes next.

So, as of today, from this moment, I’m moving on. I’m declaring a moratorium on negativity. The past is in the rearview mirror, the present is all we have, and the future, while undefined, is ours for the making.

Eddie Vedder once wrote a rising tempest of emancipation that so forcefully expresses how it feels to be wronged, yet still move on as you look back with wiser eyes. Sometimes, you just need the perspective that only a rearview mirror can afford.
